BABY BOOMERS

Ok, so an AARP card showed up in your mailbox in your name. And, the youngsters working at the local movie theatre have been giving you a senior citizen discount on a regular basis for some time now…so what? “Senior citizen” certainly doesn’t mean what it used to. We’re members of the baby boomers’ generation and somehow our ages, no matter how young we still feel, are entitling us to some discount services here and there. Enjoy it! Baby Boomers certainly don’t act like senior citizens these days. We’re still active, most of us are still working and, many of us still enjoy a multitude of physical activities. Heck, some of us, myself included, compete in triathlons, marathons, and other competitive sporting events. Life is not meant to be spent on the sidelines. We still have many years ahead of us and need to enjoy life to its fullest. Therefore, I thought my fellow baby boomers would appreciate a webpage of useful information and topics affecting individuals our age.

Did you know that the baby boomer generation represents 27.7% of the US population and, that a baby boomer will hit 50 years of age every 7 seconds until 2014? These statistics foreshadow many problems that we will face in the future with regards to social security, retirement and pension plans, and our healthcare system. Our generation is currently dealing with such issues as caring for our parents, while either still caring for our children, or having our children return home after college. These statistics also mean that in our future, there will be a crisis in our country with regards to the number of people suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease and other age-related illnesses.
