Are you familiar with the term, “statute of limitations?” Simply, statute of limitations is basically a window for filing a lawsuit. The Florida House is now considering ending the statute of limitations in
wrongful death lawsuits involving civil cases.
This decision could drastically affect Jeffrey Klee’s family, whose body was dumped just off of Riverside Park in Coral Springs in 1977. Klee’s friend admitted that following an argument, he pushed a van, with Klee’s body in it, into a canal. Unfortunately, the admission occurred well after the timeframe that the family could seek justice and file a wrongful death suit.
That could all change if the Florida House passes HB1. Klee’s family would be able to go after the suspect and seek damages. This bill could allow other families to file civil suits in cold cases such as Klee’s.
“This bill will give some families at least a little bit of satisfaction that something can be done,”
Klee’s mother, Flossie Klee said.
