I’ve heard that Actos can cause bladder cancer. But what about kidney cancer?

The bladder cancer risks of taking Actos for type-2 diabetes are well documented. In fact, the company itself warns of the dangers in its prescribing information.

But, the cancer risks don’t stop there.

While taking pioglitazone may already lead to liver problems and renal failure, doctors now have reason to suspect that Actos may cause many different types of cancer in diabetic patients. There have been at least 17 reported cases of kidney cancer in Actos patients since the medication became available, all sufferers over the age of 50.

Be on the lookout for the following symptoms of kidney cancer when taking Actos in Palm Beach:

  • Blood in the urine
  • A persistent pain in the side
  • A lump in the abdomen
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Nausea
  • Fever or sweating
  • Fatigue

Kidney cancer can be particularly dangerous, since the warning signs may be easily explained away, leaving the victim to suffer until his condition is too far gone to recover. Symptoms of nausea and fatigue should be checked by a doctor immediately, since diabetic medications can cause lactic acidosis, a potentially fatal condition.

France and Germany have already taken Actos and other pioglitazone medications off the market, stating that the increased cancer risks outweighed the potential blood sugar benefits. The Food and Drug Administration has not yet seen fit to follow suit, leaving the dangerous prescription available to American diabetics.

Kidney cancer treatment almost always involves surgery. Depending on the severity, a patient may be forced to endure:

  • Removal of the kidney
  • Chemotherapy
  • Immunotherapy
  • Hormone therapy

As Palm Beach Actos claims attorneys, we don’t believe that people should be made to suffer a life-threatening condition as a result of a manageable one. Diabetics who were put at risk by drug companies eager to turn a profit are victims-and people who deserve to have their day in court.

If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with cancer while taking Actos, we can get you the compensation you deserve. Call Fetterman & Associates today at (866) 865-1244 for your free consultation.
