Don’t Drive Angry! How to Handle Road Rage in Lake Worth

If you’ve never been in a Florida car accident, you might think that after the dust has cleared and the initial shock wears off, the worst is over. Your car may be damaged, but you’re alive, and all you have to do now is pick up the pieces.

But what if the accident is just the beginning?

This is often the case for those who have experienced a car accident with an aggressive driver. Victims of aggressive driving, or road rage in Lake Worth, have exited their car to take information from the other driver, only to be met with blame, hostility, and personal attacks. High tempers and heightened emotions have lead to physical violence, and even several Florida road rage shootings.

People can often spot the signals of an aggressive driver in Florida before an accident even occurs. For example:

  • Risky behavior such as changing lanes at the last minute, not using proper signals, and cutting across several lanes at once
  • Impatient actions such as speeding, honking, or illegally going around cars they feel are moving too slowly
  • Visible signs of aggression such as gestures, leaning far forward, frustrated yelling, or wild arm movements
  • Slowed reactions such as braking late for stopped traffic or failure to avoid debris in the roadway
  • Poor judgment including running red lights, merging too closely with cars, and alienating other drivers by putting them at risk

In addition to these behaviors, studies have shown that road rage accidents in Lake Worth are more likely to occur during rush hour, after people are ending their stressful days at work. Fridays carry the highest number of road rage cases, and drinking or drug use while driving increased a driver’s aggressive tendencies.

In an effort to bring down the number of road rage cases, Florida drivers are encouraged to check themselves when driving under stress. If you feel that your emotions are high enough to affect your driving, you should take the following actions immediately:

  • Take several deep breaths
Pull off the road until your temper has gone down
Go to a nearby coffee shop or restaurant until you regain composure
If you are upset beyond the ability to recover, call someone to pick you up

It is important to remember that, no matter who was at fault in an accident, escalating the situation will only make things worse. If an aggressive driver took justice into his own hands after an accident, then he has committed a crime.
