A person suffering from this form of paralysis will lose control of the bladder and bowel at some degree, because the spinal cord nerves control these functions. Pressure sores, also known as bedsores, are another concern for people with quadriplegia. Sores can develop from pressure by the weight of the body. Quadriplegia prohibits patients from moving their own weight, which can increase their risk of bedsores.
