Safety Advocates Say Heavy Trucks Can Lead to More Truck Accidents in Florida

The Truck Safety Coalition, a partnership between The Citizens for Reliable and Safe Highways (CRASH) Foundation, and Parents Against Tired Truckers (P.A.T.T), has compiled data to show the dangers of heavy trucks. According to the Truck Safety Coalition’s website, www.stopbiggertrucks.org, “compared to single-trailer trucks, double-trailer trucks are 32 percent more often involved in fatal crashes and 200 percent more likely to be in interstate highway crashes.”

There has been a lot of heated debate about whether or not heavier trucks should be allowed on U.S. roads and highways. Already, it is estimated that at least 10 to 20 percent of the trucks on the roads are breaking the law by being over the weight requirement. These overweight trucks are a safety hazard.

A lot of research has been conducted into heavier combination trucks and it is believed that significantly increasing the sizes and weights of these rigs could create higher safety risks per mile traveled. The Truck Safety Coalition has stated that many truckers are apprehensive to drive double or triple trailers, because these vehicles are more challenging to control and stop. Truckers have reported that when they are pulling a third trailer, there is virtually no control over it in an emergency.

The State of Florida is no stranger to truck accidents. In Florida, thousands are injured each year in large truck crashes. These Florida truck accidents are also to blame for countless deaths.

If you or a loved one has been hurt in a Florida truck accident, you may be able to pursue compensation. For more information, contact a Palm Beach truck accident attorney at Fetterman & Associates – the Law Team at (866) 865-1244.
